Our Humble Beginnings
Established in 1968, Sonakhali Higher Secondary School began as a modest effort to bring the light of education to the children of 6 No. Sonakhali, a remote village nestled deep within the Sundarbans region of South 24 Parganas. At that time, this area was marked by isolation, poor infrastructure, and limited access to basic services—let alone quality education.
Yet, out of these limitations arose a collective vision. A group of socially aware intellectuals, community elders, and education-loving individuals recognized that education was the only path to upliftment and empowerment. Their dedication laid the foundation for what would become a life-changing institution for generations of students.
Overcoming Challenges
The early years were marked by immense challenges. The school started with very few resources—limited classrooms, a shortage of teachers, and basic learning materials. However, the determination of the founders and the unwavering support from the local community kept the mission alive.
Teachers traveled long distances, often through muddy paths and across rivers, to reach the school. Students came barefoot, carrying dreams far bigger than their means. Despite the hardships, the school grew—slowly but steadily—into a pillar of education in the region.
